Four Konecranes Noell RTG cranes were shipped from Konecranes’ Xiamen factory and were successfully delivered to Sapangar Bay Container Port recently. The crane commissioning was completed in line with the port yard infrastructure, which mainly involved the ground busbar system. The crane was handed over in September 2017.
The lifting capacity of the four Konecranes Noell RTGs is 40 tonnes under spreader, while stacking 1-over-5 containers high and seven plus truck lane wide, respectively. The cranes are powered by a busbar system, and are also equipped with a small diesel engine for back-up and stack changing.
Having cooperated successfully for a couple of years, Sabah Ports and Konecranes Port Solutions started with the M170 mobile harbour crane, which was delivered in 2005. Meanwhile, another two Konecranes reach stackers and one Konecranes Gottwald M2 mobile harbour crane were delivered to Sabah Ports in June last year. A contract was also signed for the delivery of another four Konecranes Noell RTGs and two Konecranes Noell Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes in the same month.
Mohd Sahid Hj Nawab Khan, the chief operating officer of Sabah Ports, is satisfied with Konecranes products. When he was asked about the product performance, Mohd Sahid said that the two Konecranes Gottwald Mobile Harbour Crane which were delivered in 2005 are still functioning competently at Sandakan and Tawau port. According to Mohd Sahid, he believes that Sabah Ports and Konecranes will maintain a long-term cooperation in view of the good product performance and after-sales service from Konecranes.
As for the other two units of Konecranes Noell STS cranes, the same are scheduled to be shipped to Sapangar Bay Container Port in November this year. It is believed that the line of Konecranes equipment in Sabah Ports, which includes the 4 Konecranes Noell RTGs and two STS cranes, will provide a solid foundation for the future development of the ports.
