With the aim to improve transit time efficiency for shippers and contain costs, APL Logistics has announced the opening of a 114,000-square-foot Container Freight Station in Bangladesh. The new facility is located six kilometers from the country’s busiest seaport at Chittagong, and near two special economic zones; the Chittagong and Karnaphuli Export Processing Zones. “This is the most efficient, up-to-date facility of its kind in the country,” said Siddharth Adya, managing director for APL Logistics in South Asia. “It has been built exclusively for our customers and there’s room to grow as we grow our business here. The freight station replaces two other locations that the company shared previously with competing providers, and will be used only for APL Logistics’ customers. The station features: cross-dock and consolidation facilities, 48 receiving bays, trucking capabilities, advanced security, and value-added services such as bar code scanning.
