THE LOGISTICS & SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT SOCIETY

The regional Professional Body for Logistics Practitioners

Taking the cue from industry and from government bodies, logistics is a growth sector in the economy and many global companies see Singapore as an important logistics hub. To maintain and excel in this position the Society feels that the human resource base needs to upgrade its knowledge and skills. A new “study now, pay later” scheme is one of the many industry first’s introduced by the Society to help maintain that edge.

By drawing on the resources and expertise of members and strategic partners like the Australian Logistics Academy, the scheme will provide opportunities to individuals interested in a career in logistics. The internationally recognized program has the added advantage of being approved by the Ministry of Education, Singapore. Upon completion, students may proceed on to courses with leading overseas universities.

This is the first scheme of its kind to be launched in Singapore and applications for the next intake are open.

Also on the education theme, a new executive committee of the Logistics & Supply Chain Management Student Chapter at Singapore’s Ngee An Polytechnic has been elected to serve a one-year term until April 2010.

Comprising of students studying for the Diploma in Logistics Management and Diploma in Internal SCM, the Ngee An chapter boasts more than 300 members who work with the parent Society to organize regular activities We wish the new ExCo a successful year in office.

SUPPLY CHAIN DICTIONARY

As in most professions, the logistics and supply chain industry has become so technically sophisticated that a whole new language of terms, jargon, abbreviations and management buzzwords have developed, alongside legal words and defi nitions.

Compiled and edited by members of the Society from a number of sources the aim of this dictionary is to identify these terms in clear, unambiguous English, and providing accurate definitions and descriptions.

We currently have more than 5000 terms, abbreviations and acronyms available on our website and we encourage logisticians to access www.lscms.org and provide us with your valuable feedback on the beta version of this dictionary. The hard copy goes to print in August 2009.
