SSI Schaefer Implements Fully Automated Warehouse
- Posted on 14 January 2010
In mid-2008 Fresenius Kabi decided to build a logistics center at the Cargo Center Graz (CCG). The company has assigned SSI Schaefer with the conception, planning and realization of a fully automated high bay warehouse including two stacker cranes and double-deep storage. This allows the storage of two or three pallets in the double-deep storage columns, depending on the respective pallet type.
The center has three temperature zones ranging from minus 15 °C to room temperature, an oxygen-reduced, fully automated high bay warehouse, a clean area for the sampling of resources as well as a monitoring system.
The Fresenius Kabi logistics center will accommodate the company's warehouse management, the goods-in area and picking area. At the same time, it will serve as the base for the company-owned trucks, which supply hospitals and pharmacies throughout Austria.
The logistics center will be used as the central logistics interface to supply Eastern European markets as well as patients worldwide – from Latin America to Southeast Asia.
The entire system comprises two SSI Schaefer stacker cranes, which are controlled by the logistics software WAMAS. The conveying system contains 36 drive units. The overall system is operated by the control system including 490 digital inputs and 236 digital outputs. The material flow calculator simultaneously controls the flow of goods on the conveying systems and ensures the transport to and from the 7,500 pallet storage locations within this unit.
