MAERSK LOGISTICS BECOMES DAMCO

The A.P. Moller – Maersk Group has combined its freight forwarding and supply chain management businesses under a single brand name, Damco. Previously, it was only the forwarding business that operated under the Damco name, with supply chain activities falling under the Maersk Logistics moniker.

Rolf Habben-Jansen, CEO of Damco said, “Under the new brand, our primary drivers remain our passion for working closely with our customers and our dedication to reliable, high-quality service delivery. Engaging with our customers to become and remain their preferred choice in the industry is at the centre of what we stand for as Damco.”

Martin Thaysen, chief commercial officer at Damco says: “The new brand gives us a much stronger platform to present and deliver our full service portfolio. We have a strong global coverage, with particular strengths in emerging markets, and we deliver both single freight forwarding services or structure more advanced individual solutions for our customers, depending on their needs.”

And in an interview with Logistics Insight Asia, Thaysen delved further into reasons for changing from the previous dual brand strategy. “We had a lot of customers trading across both the Maersk Logistics and Damco brands, and having a single front to the customer was the primary driver for the move to a single, all encompassing brand,” he explained. “And secondly, we have been able to take out some of the complexity – and cost – that was created through operating separate businesses.”
