GAC Delivers Transformers for Jaber Al Ahmed in Kuwait
When four mammoth transformers weighing in at 210 tonnes each had to be transported and placed onto foundation at Kuwait's Jaber Al Ahmed "W" Substation, it was GAC Kuwait that was entrusted with the task.
Hyundai Engineering and Construction Company appointed GAC Kuwait to handle the transformers.
When the transformers arrived from Japan at Shuweikh port, they were unloaded from the vessel onto heavy-lift trailers. The trailers were then driven throughout the night – the safest time to transport such over-sized cargo - to the Jaber Al Ahmed W substation.
GAC Kuwait had pre-arranged the police and other local ministry permission as well as special escort required for the twenty kilometers journey to the final destination.
"A lot of preplanning is required to carry out such an operation," says Ronald Lichtenecker, GAC Kuwait's MD. "Despite the transformers' massive weight and special requirements, our sea freight and project team handled the job smoothly. The jacking / skidding operations for example have to be carried out slowly and with precision. The cooperation of our local transport partners also played an important role.
