Caterpillar Marine Power Systems: A Fresh Approach at SMM 2008

Caterpillar Marine Power Systems (CMPS) will showcase a wealth of advancements achieved in technology, manufacturing, customer support and financial solutions at SMM 2008. The international trade fair for Shipbuilding, Machinery and Marine Technology in Hamburg, Germany, September 23-26, will once again present a wide range of innovations to meet today’s rising standards for more competitive ships. “Making Progress Possible” is not only the claim of two world-class marine engine brands Cat and MaK, but also the theme of CMPS' stand at SMM 2008.

Caterpillar Marine Power Systems has been participating in SMM for many years, and the MaK brand has been on show since the very first SMM back in 1960. In 2008, “Making Progress Possible” describes our commitment to progress and innovation in marine business. The technology display segment will present proven emission reduction solutions like ACERT Technology, Caterpillar Common Rail (CCR) and Flexible Camshaft Technology (FCT). Also on display will be the most advanced MaK Low Emission Engine Technology (LEE). Finally, a new version of the MaK DICARE engine diagnosis and monitoring system can be expected.

The manufacturing display segment will provide some insights into the vast capital investments and process improvements underway at Caterpillar marine engine facilities all over the world. Visitors will see examples how the company increases global manufacturing capacities in order to cope with continuous strong demand from all three market segments: ocean-going, commercial marine and pleasure craft.

Global customer support is an area of increased focus for Caterpillar Marine Power Systems and forms the third display segment. It will once again highlight the unique capabilities of Caterpillar’s global dealer network and the tailor-made solutions they offer – like Extended Service Coverage (ESC) and Customer Service Agreements (CSA). Also shown will be selected remanufactured parts for Cat and MaK marine engines.

Last but not least, Cat Financial Services (Cat Finance) will showcase their capabilities in both global coverage and local presence. The organisation provides a variety of services for vessel financing and insurance, leading to one customer experience world-wide. In addition to CMPS' and Cat Finance staff, all major Cat and MaK marine engine dealers will have their sales representatives on the stand.

On 300 square metres of space, the CMPS SMM 2008 display will offer plenty of opportunity to meet and interact with Team Caterpillar. A hospitality area will provide valued customers and business partners with snacks and refreshments. Huge wall components outside will carry video screens and backlights to provide those visitors who are in a hurry with a quick overview of recent developments in technology, manufacturing, customer support and financial solutions.
