Heidelberg and DHL Partner to Set Up Hong Kong Logistics Centre

Logistics Insight Asia - Industry News, 6/8/2008

DHL has been awarded a three-year contract by Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) to manage the warehousing and distribution of its newly-established DHL-Heidelberg Hong Kong Logistic Centre (HLC), which serves as its Spare Parts Center for the Asia Pacific region. The new facility will offer customers of Heidelberg, the world’s leading solutions provider for commercial and industrial customers in the print media industry, significant reduction in delivery time for spare parts.

Prior to the establishment of the DHL-Heidelberg Hong Kong Logistic Centre, spare parts were sent to customers directly from Heidelberg’s Spare Parts Center based in Germany. With the HLC, Heidelberg decided to move more critical service parts closer to its Asian customers. This multi-million dollar investment by Heidelberg for the Hong Kong Logistics Centre will form the central spare parts distribution center for Heidelberg’s customers across 12 countries in Asia Pacific. The partnership leverages DHL’s international network and expertise in supply chain logistics, warehousing and distribution, as well as express shipping. The new facility in Hong Kong offers an improvement of up to 50 percent of the delivery time and cost efficiencies, and improved coverage with service parts for the entire Heidelberg solution offering. With the DHL-Heidelberg Hong Kong Logistics Centre, DHL provides a comprehensive, seamless logistics solution customized to Heidelberg’s business requirements.

DHL will undertake the management of the 15,000 square feet warehouse located in Tsuen Wan, operating 24x7, and housing inventory in excess of US$2 million. With DHL’s extensive air express network in Asia Pacific, it will enable the next-day delivery of spare parts to Heidelberg’s customers in major cities in the region, overcoming geographical spread, reducing lead times and optimizing inventory levels. DHL also provides dedicated key global account and program management support, ensuring effective transfer of knowledge and expertise takes place between Heidelberg and DHL.
