KUEHNE + NAGEL AND DHL WIN AIRBUS CONTRACTS

Logistics Insight Asia, 1/7/2008

Announcing two long term contract awards, Airbus has chosen Kuehne + Nagel to act as lead logistics provider (six years) and DHL to be lead transport provider (five years).

Kuehne + Nagel will exclusively manage and operate Airbus logistics hubs in Europe, while DHL will implement its full transportation system, 4PL control tower and optimization program to streamline the flow of materials to Airbus manufacturing plants.

The new Airbus logistics concept foresees the successive consolidation of all local warehouse facilities into six regional hubs by 2010. As part of this, Kuehne + Nagel will run a pan-European network of logistics centers in France, Germany, Spain, and the UK.

The DHL Control Tower will manage a significant part of Airbus' inbound transportation including air and ocean freight, road freight, customs and value added services.

DHL says its expertise in deploying transportation solutions to deliver harmonization and optimization of transportation processes can generate savings for large-size customers. Implementation of the new transportation concept will start on September 1.
