ONE YEAR FOR DAMCO

Logistics Insight Asia, 1/7/2008

Damco celebrated its first anniversary as a global forwarder on July 1, saying that it has managed to achieve what it set out to do: establish itself as a global freight forwarder offering flexible, localized, and personalized services to deliver exactly what customers want, when and how they want it.

In the Asia-Pacific region, which encompasses covering Southeast Asia and Oceania, Damco's revenues increased by 26 percent and its client base grew by 20 percent.

Jens Wessel, Head of Damco in Asia-Pacific: "It's been a great start for Damco in Asia-Pacific, having experienced significant growth in the past year, propelled by increased business activities in industries such as Retail and FMCG. This is a clear sign that our customers recognize the quality service that Damco offers."

According to Damco, the outlook for freight forwarding remains optimistic as the region continues to experience fast economic growth, driven by sourcing demand from the US, Europe and Oceania. Increasing development of Asian markets has also resulted in higher consumer demand, benefiting the freight forwarding industry.

A member of the A P Møller-Maersk A/S group, Damco was born from the merger of Dutch freight forwarding company Damco Sea & Air and the forwarding activities of Denmarkbased DSL Star Express. In 2007, Damco shipped 621,000 TEUs, achieving a turnover of more than US$2.9 billion.
