DHL Launches Solution for Temperature Sensitive Shipments
Logistics Insight Asia - Industry News, 14/7/2008
DHL Freight, the European overland transport business of Deutsche Post World Net, now offers a Europe-wide transport solution for temperature sensitive products also for smaller shipments. The DHL Coldchain network has been especially designed for the needs of life science and pharmaceutical companies and ensures the continuous cooling of the shipped goods. DHL Coldchain offers a dedicated, fully monitored and temperature controlled network meeting all requirements of the industry in terms of regulation, security, quality and handling.
With DHL Coldchain customers are able to also transport smaller volumes of temperature sensitive products in a cost efficient way for the first time.
Shipments of up to 20 palettes can now be transported in groupage loads and based on regular schedules within Europe whilst maintaining the highest quality standards. Throughout the entire journey in one of the 500 refrigerated special truck, the temperature of the products in the categories "refrigerated" (2° - 8° Celsius) and "controlled ambient products" (2° - 25° Celsius) is monitored and transmitted continuously.
Dedicated IT tools will in future allow each customer to track the status and temperature of all shipments online in real time. The DHL Innovation Center is already developing the next generation solution of temperature control for highly sensitive goods and will soon launch a solution based on RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology.
The entire DHL Coldchain process is fully GDP-compliant (Good Distribution
Practise) and DHL-employees have been trained accordingly. The entire network is being managed and controlled centrally in Basel, Switzerland. DHL Freight has established a designated multilingual Life Science Competence Center there to provide efficient consultancy and to develop individual concepts for customers.
