China Relief
The Caterpillar Foundation has donated US$550,000, split between the American Red Cross and the World Food Program, and will match up to an additional US $500,000 in gifts from Cat employees, retirees, directors and dealer employees. Our total potential contribution could reach US$1.55 million. In addition, Shin Caterpillar Mitsubishi has made a donation of 10 million yen (approximately US$95,650) to the Japanese Red Cross to be used for disaster relief in China. And employees at our FG Wilson dealership in Hong Kong have contributed more than US$78,500, and the dealership has mobilized a significant number of generator sets for use in relief efforts.
ECI-Metro, the Cat and SEM dealer in the affected area, has provided a fleet of 22 machines, work tools and generators sets for rescue operations, along with a team of skilled operators. Three other Cat dealers in China have mobilized an additional 40 units of Cat equipment and teams of operators to stand by for a second dispatch. These in-kind donations are valued at US$10 million.
Myanmar Relief
Given the political situation in Myanmar, Caterpillar and its dealers are moving forward cautiously with our support of relief efforts. The Caterpillar Foundation has made gifts of US$350,000 to be split between the American Red Cross and the World Food Program. It will match up to an additional US$250,000 in gifts from Cat employees, retirees, directors and dealer employees. Our total potential contribution could reach US$850,000. Cat dealer Myanmar Tractors has mobilized a fleet of machines, mechanics and generator sets for use in rescue operations. The estimated value of this in-kind donation is
unknown at this time.
