International Supply Chain Security Management System Standard affirms YCH’s commitment to adopting a total supply chain approach to the supply chain.
Singapore-based logistics and supply chain management company YCH Group has received the ISO 28000: 2007 Certification. Said to be the first end-to-end Supply Chain Management (SCM) provider in the world to receive the international supply chain security management system standards certification, the ISO 28000: 2007 acknowledges YCH’s adoption of a total supply chain approach to security. The certification is also recognition of its application and implementation of a stringent security management system to assure the overall safety of customers’ goods.
Last year, the company handled an annual flow-through of more than US$50 billion worth of goods for its MNC customers in the region along the secured supply chain.
The ISO 28000: 2007 standard, awarded by certifying body Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance, provides SCM providers with security-based frameworks and processes to assure that the supply chain is secure. This also prevents vulnerabilities and manages risks in the supply chain. ISO 28000: 2007 is a management system specification, which integrates the process-based approach of ISO's management system standards, including the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle and requirement for continual improvement, as well as the risk management elements of ISO 14001. The ISO 28000: 2007 standard is designed to aid the integration of quality, environmental and supply chain security management system within an organization.
YCH has an effective security management system that can continually assess its security processes to protect its business interests and ensure compliance to global regulatory requirements. In addition, YCH has also been able to reduce supply chain variability and enhance greater supply chain velocity and visibility. Receiving the ISO 28000: 2007 certification means that YCH’s customers will enjoy a robust security management system and be assured that their supply chain security is taken seriously.
The benefits gleaned from the ISO 28000: 2007 certification will enable better monitoring of freight flow, to combat smuggling and to respond to the threat of piracy and terrorist attacks as well as to create a safe and secure international supply chain regime.
“The ISO 28000: 2007 certification is a systematic approach to security management for global supply chains, and it is an internationally recognized specification. This standard, which supports security risk management, also provides organizations with a foundation for other international security initiatives, including the US-based Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) or the ‘Authorized Economic Operator’ programs already adopted by many leading multinationals,” said Mr. John Stansfeld, Director and President of Lloyd’s Register Asia.
The standard takes a pragmatic and business-centric approach to risk management as a critical component of effective management. Invariably, the standard also ensures that key business decisions are based on a process of proactive and effective risk assessment.
The ISO 28000: 2007 certification has enabled YCH to scale its security management system to manage all of the company’s specific security needs in a realistic, sustainable and cost-effective manner across its network of facilities across the Asia-Pacific. Last year, YCH was also the first end-to-end supply chain management provider to be accredited with the Secure Trade Partnership (STP) certification by Singapore Customs.
