Savi Unveils SmartChain 5.0 Software Platform at RFID Live

Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) helps unify software systems on a common platform to enhance supply chain management, processes and efficiency.

Lockheed Martin’s Savi business has just launched SmartChain 5.0, a platform and application suite providing new leading-edge capabilities that enhance the performance, business processes and efficiency of supply chains for commercial and government customers. Savi SmartChain 5.0, built on 15 years of delivering the industry’s most complete RFID-based solutions, was announced on Wednesday (April 16) at the opening of the RFID Live! conference.

Savi SmartChain 5.0 leverages Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) to provide a framework for integrating real-time data from all types of wireless technologies about an organizations business processes into its enterprise software systems or information services. The Savi SmartChain platform processes and transforms data into actionable information from any standards-based Automatic Identification and Data Collection (AIDC) technology, including bar codes, sensors, passive or active Radio Frequency Identification, cellular, GPS or satellite communications system.

“Following 18 months of innovative development, Savi SmartChain 5.0 delivers improved end-to-end visibility, efficiency and business process monitoring and control,” said David Shannon, senior vice president of Savi Technology. “Savi SmartChain enables our customers to extract significantly greater value from their supply chains – they will experience increased asset utilization, reduced supply chain inventories, and improved delivery reliability.”

Shannon added that SmartChain 5.0 provides the industry’s greatest possible integration of AIDC and software systems, enabling greater collaboration among trading partners and simplification of complex business challenges throughout supply chains. Savi SmartChain has a worldwide install base that includes numerous commercial shippers and service providers as well as allied defense forces.

Automated alerts of supply chain events and exceptions can be automatically transmitted to the user in a highly secured environment via the Internet, a cell phone or Personal Digital Assistant (PDA).

In addition to capturing and processing real-time data into actionable information, the enhanced Savi SmartChain is the common platform for Savi’s suite of application software, including Savi SmartChain Asset Management Application, Savi SmartChain Shipment Management Application, and Savi SmartChain Consignment Management Application.
