SLOTTING CAPABILITIES FOR WMS

Logistics Asia, 1/3/2008

With companies facing increasing complexity, especially in high volume fulfillment operations, Sterling Commerce announces the availability of a slotting engine for Sterling Warehouse Management System. The engine identifies the most efficient placement for items in the warehouse, enabling companies to more intelligently manage both personnel and physical resources in the warehouse.

Given that travel time can account for up to 60 percent of a picker’s daily activity, a good slotting strategy can reduce travel time and improve the efficiency of pickingrelated labor.

The addition of the slotting engine adds planning and execution capability to enable companies to respond to changes in product volumes and seasonality to maximize product placement and picking productivity.
