Healthy growth for bar code printer consumables

The bar code printer consumables market is set to grow at almost 10 percent annually through 2011, according to research out from Venture Development Corporation (VDC).

Within the past few years, high performance printers have increasingly been replaced by multiple application-dedicated, lowerpriced, and generally lower-output, units. However, the distribution of printing has been both in response to, and driving the development of, new applications. Therefore, the overall consumables market has been growing: more printers, more applications, more consumables and supplies requirements.

The total global bar code printer consumables market approached US$7 billion in 2006 and is anticipated to reach $11 billion in five years. The majority of growth is expected from products that support thermal printing technologies.
