JUNGHEINRICH EXPANDS LIFT TRUCK PRODUCTION CAPACITY
Logistics Insight Asia, 1/1/2008
Material handling equipment and logistics solutions supplier Jungheinrich is constructing a 30 million euro (US$44 million), 30,000 annual production capacity plant for the manufacture of battery-powered low-platform trucks, in Landsberg, Germany. Production startup isscheduled for the middle of 2009
Jungheinrich says it expects the market to continue growing in the years to come and is adapting its production capacity accordingly. Landsberg will also be home to an independent center of excellence, carrying out product development and product management for these forklifts. A production area for steelwork plus a powder coating facility will be set up in addition to the assembly unit.
At present, Jungheinrich is building battery-powered low-platform trucks in Norderstedt, close to Hamburg, where battery-powered high-platform trucks, reach trucks, and components such as controls and masts are built. The plant was modernized extensively between 2005 and 2007.
Shifting low-platform truck production to Landsberg will free up room in Norderstedt to increase production output for the existing products, says Jungheinrich.
