LXE, DSI Deliver Comprehensive Multimodal Data Collection Solution

Logistics Insight Asia - New Products, 5/2/2008

LXE, Inc., the mobile logistics business of EMS Technologies, Inc., and Data Systems International, Inc. (DSI) announced that both the LXE MX7 flagship rugged handheld computer and the LXE HX2 wearable computer are now certified with dcLINK VOICEActivator.

dcLINK VOICEActivator embeds voice functionality in dcLINK, DSI’s software solution that enables multimodal data collection using bar code, RFID, voice, and mobile applications on a single platform with real-time integration into many popular Enterprise Software packages. dcLINK VOICEActivator functionality allows clients to voice-enable warehouse processes, such as picking, receiving and shipping, using suitable voice-enabled data collection hardware.
LXE's voice-ready computers are built on exclusive ToughTalk technology, a specialized combination of LXE's trademark ruggedized system design, advanced audio circuitry and noise canceling techniques, that enables a full line of handheld, wearable and vehicle-mount computers to support today's multimodal logistics applications in the harshest and noisiest conditions. By not requiring a dedicated voice-only device for voice applications, LXE and DSI provide companies a lower cost of entry and greater flexibility for voice-enabling their warehouse operations.

The joint solution brings to fruition LXE’s vision for ARIA (Adaptive Recognition and Information Assurance), a multimodal framework that combines the strengths of multiple technologies, such as barcode, RFID, and voice recognition, with next-generation software applications and streamlined business processes.

Speech-enabling the warehouse makes good business sense. Analyst firm Aberdeen Group found in a market study that half of speech users reduce warehouse costs, compared with only 22 percent of non-speech users. And while picking is the dominant voice function in today’s warehouses, between one-third and one-half of companies also have voice-enabled functions such as receiving, put away and shipping, Aberdeen reports.
