UPS RAMPS UP FOR SERVICE LOGISTICS IN CHINA
Logistics Insight Asia, 1/1/2010
UPS has announced plans to significantly increase its global service parts logistics (SPL) network by establishing 101 new field stocking locations (FSLs) in China. With the expansion, UPS now covers 89 cities across China with more than 110 bonded and non-bonded FSLs.
Companies in a variety of industries that require same-day and/ or next-business-day delivery of critical service parts – such as electronics, medical equipment and aerospace – will benefit from the expansion, says UPS.
“China is a critical part of the growth strategy of many companies worldwide and UPS’ extensive regional and global FSL network enables companies to be well-positioned to support their aftermarket needs in Asia,” said Brad Mitchell, president of UPS Logistics and Distribution.
The FSLs in China, like their counterparts across the globe, will utilize the UPS Post Sales Order Management System (OMS), a web-based system that enables companies located across the world to assess critical parts inventory, determine the most optimal routing strategy to meet customer needs, place orders online, and track parts from the warehouse to the end user.
UPS claims that its SPL network is the world’s largest with more than 950 FSLs in 120 countries. In May 2009, UPS announced the expansion of its global FSL network in India and the opening of a new customer support center in the Philippines to meet around the clock service parts logistics needs in Asia.
