IHI, which manufactures and markets large-scale construction equipment including mini-excavators, hydraulic shovels and cranes, and associated environment-related equipment, is engaged in parts control of approximately 60,000 items of varying sizes at its parts center in Yokohama. The deployment began in June 2008, applying Vocollect Voice over a period of months for cycle-counting, receiving inspection, storage, picking and shipping inspection.
The key goals for the deployment were work standardization, the simplification of work processes, and overall productivity enhancement by improving operational efficiencies. The company realized a 46 percent average improvement in productivity, reducing the number of workers per shift by 50 percent.
